Projects in Action
We categorize our efforts into Projects and Opportunities.
After we determine a need, all projects are approved by the Board members after we done some preliminary research on costs. Once a decision is made, we assemble the costs into budget and to establish a fund-raising goal.
Projects have a specific goal and timetable.
Smaller Projects ($500 to $5,000 USD) are driven to meet a specific need (medicine, equipment, supplies, etc.).
Larger Projects: ($5,000 USD to $35,000 USD) For larger efforts, such as a water well (aka a Bore Hole) we work with the community to select a site, get government approval as needed, check the site to improve the chances of a successful project by using geologists/geo engineers to check the location (improving our chance of success), then hire an experienced Project Manager to develop a list of materials and costs (startup costs), then post the project and details for fund raising.
While these projects take more funds, they often serve a large number of people. Clean water is key to improving community health as water-borne disease is a very common from surface water sources.
Construction Costs in Zambia run about 1/3 the cost of a similar project in the US.
Opportunities
Opportunities provide you a chance to donate to much needed and ongoing supplies, such as medical supplies, medicine, food, clothing, vaccines (although a vaccine campaign may be presented as a project) and equipment maintenance. In this case we are looking to establish opportunities for you to direct your giving toward areas of interest. Often these funds have an ongoing and immediate impact on individuals in need.
The goal is to build up the opportunity buckets so we can support urgent needs without delay.
